Friends of the Gillett Public Library

The purpose of the Friends of the Gillett Public Library will be to support, promote and encourage the Gillett Library. For more information about the Friends call Kay Rankel at the Gillett Public Library 920-855-6224.

Story Time

Story hour is held at the library meeting room September through May. Children and their parents meet each Friday from 10:00 am thru 11:00 am. Exceptions to this is when school is out. Story hour is open to children up thru kindergarten.

The Gillett Library has a unique program usually starting with "Stand up, Sit down." Each week has it's own theme. The story for the week reflects that theme. Many times Cindy Tusch engages the children in a sing-a-long on her guitar. After the story and song the children complete a craft project that pertains to the theme.

The children have been visited by McGruff the Crime Dog, Pawsitive Families of Oconto County, Gillett Police Department, Santa Claus, and The Easter Bunny.

Make it and Take it Craft Day

Schools out, what is there to do. Check with the Library, there is a good chance that they have a Make it and Take it (MITI) Craft Day. Stop in and see what you can create.

Summer Reading Program

The Library also sponsors that annual summer reading program. There are incentives for all ages to read or be read to during the summer months.

  • Kids
Wednesday 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. is for ages 6-12
Friday 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. is for PreSchoolers
Children earn points for reading and for projects they complete. They can turn in their points for the Auction/ Market at the end of the program. Summer 2005 theme is Dragons, Dreams, and Daring Deeds.
  • Teens
Teens can register for the GPL's STREET program (Summer Teen Readers Excell Every Time), and they will be eligible to win prizes each month. Teens will have many opportunities to volunteer @ the GPL this summer, and they will earn rewards for their efforts.
  • Adults
For every Book that adults read during the summer, you can enter your name into a monthly drawing for prizes.

The great prizes and success of these programs are due in part to the enormous generosity of the Community and Friends in donation of prizes, money, time, and talent. Check with the library for more information.

Meeting Room

The Gillett Public Library has a meeting room that seats up to 90 persons. This room is free to all non-profit organizations. The fee to rent the room for personal use is $15.00.
